Can You Float Like A Butterfly?

img_5284

Have you ever been in a training session with a group of people and had someone ask either an annoying or tough question? Almost when you didn’t need it?

Rather than be upset or get annoyed take a different approach; thank them for the question.

I always admired Mohammed Ali for his ability to be able to move and flow when someone threw a punch at him, he moved with them in reverse keeping their glove infront of his face at the same distance. He could back away like nobody could. He was ready for every punch and expected it. He kept it where he could see it and always dealt the blow using their punch to his advantage either by tiring them out or hitting them when they we’re exposed.

Thank them for the question. You should have been ready for it. If they hadn’t asked it, they would have been thinking about it, and you can bet so were others.

The fact that they asked it and threw the punch out there they’ve handed it to you to deal with and this is your moment to shine. To show no fear and keep it in front of your face and deal with it flawlessly.

If you cant answer the question in a public setting you shouldn’t be training. Get yourself to a position where you can answer in public every time flawlessly and you will show strength of character, and wow you group beyond belief. You do that you can do anything. You fold or fail in public why would anyone one follow you or listen to you?

They just did you the biggest favour, whether you crush it or you flop you had to be real with yourself and your abilities. Always take the opportunity to float like a butterfly in public and show no fear in the face of those questions, because if you cant handle it, you shouldn’t be in the ring. Be ready to sting like a bee – not to flaunt it in their face but with elegance to show that this is not your first fight and you’ve prepared for this fight, and every punch your entire life.

Wow them and thank the guy or gal for giving you the opportunity to shine in public and raise your status to the next level!

God love you!
Be Great!

Can you Smile, Wink & Say “I Got’ dis!”?

139-Success.jpg

Breathe – things are never as bad as they seem. Smile, things are never as good as they seem. Wink – Life is lived somewhere in the middle.

When stuff is really not going my way, I notice that fear and doubt tend to set in. And that emotional response kills any intelligence that I have.

I have to control my body and my mind. It’s easier to use the body to control the mind if you understand posture, and interrupting patterns of behaviour. For example, if you see a depressed person, their shoulders are slouched and often they are looking down. If you are depressed I encourage you try this exercise.

Throw your shoulders back, put a big cheesy smile on your face, look straight up at the ceiling and now… try to feel depressed.

… It’s hard isn’t it…?

This should show you that you have the capacity to change your state and increase your energy regardless of the surrounding situation. You cannot change what’s happened; only how you react to it in your mind and the action that you take from this moment on.

Attitude+Activity=Success

My solution, when things go bad for me, someone cancels a meeting, quits on me, cancels a program… I take a deep breath, smile, wink and say to the enemies around me that want me to despair and hate God for my circumstance… I got’ dis!

Be great!

God Love you!

Killing Time

pknn-nxcnhs-jens-kreuter.jpg

Killing time… I cringe at the words. The only true currency of the world is time and rather seeking to multiply it we are wasting it.

We can always go and make more money and things can be replaced but time is always moving and either we are using it to grow or we are dying. I’ve discovered a way of extending time and I’d like to share 3 ways in which to do so with some practical applications.

  • wake up early.

By rising early (beating the sun up) you can add years of productivity to your life. You can actually live instead of existing. To be able to do this you MUST go to bed early at a pre-set time or you will break you body.

  • be aware of where every moment of time is going and account for it.

Awareness is key to profitability. Have every moment of your day accounted for – meaning you should have no white space or free time. Fill it with something by keeping a physical calendar and be ruthless with your schedule. Schedule family time, play time, learn time, write time, in-fact schedule anything thats important to you and respect it enough to not distract yourself from it. What can you say no to? And what will you think about repeatedly? Focus on small tasks in limited time slots with measurable, achievable results; then bang them out.

  • duplicate yourself by building people to multiply time.

This last one is the hardest because it requires us to ask for help and invest our time in others. Be it an assistant or our spouse or children. Together we can accomplish more than we ever could on our own. Do not be afraid of pouring yourself into others. The productivity payoff can be limitless even though in the moment it may seem faster to do everything yourself. Be patient and keep the bigger picture in view. I’m reminded of a Chinese Proverb:

If you want 1 year of prosperity, grow grain. If you want 10 years of prosperity, grow trees. If you want 100 years of prosperity, grow people.

TIME – Invest it, grow it, collapse it and be great!

God love you!

Accountability & Its End

obt4ljvnmqg-alvin-mahmudov

Here’s one for all the entrepreneurs –

Why do we have to be accountable? Us to others and others to us…

When I have others report to me, its more for them than it is for me. I’ll get various answers and in various formats. We are all works in progress in business and in life but again with out the purpose of a thing the energy spent pursuing the thing itself is wasted and we may never hit the mark.

It’s taken me a long time to discover this although I’ve heard words before, I had not until recently understood the message. I am accountable to someone else because I need it. Not them.  We are accountable for 3 reasons:

  • for us to know what we’ve done.
  • for us to see how much more we have to do.
  • to keep others in the loop.

First, to know what we’ve done toward the end. If we do not have an end clearly defined, we are wasting time. To ask ourselves whether we could have or should have done more. It allows us to reflect – do our actions show that we are really serious about hitting the targets we’ve set for ourselves.

Second, to remind ourselves what still needs to be done; not so that we can be discouraged but to recognize that perfection in business and life is a process. A <always getting better it> kind of thing. And also to show us that we’ve made movement along the line toward the end in the bigger picture.

Third, to keep others in the loop  – there’s not much more to be said about this other than they need to know, so you have to let them know. Their job is to make sure we are on track and that we’re making progress. Don’t hate them for asking, or pushing us. Instead, hate inactivity or average or mediocrity. Hate anything thats not worthy of our time and energy most especially the things that distract us from the goal. We MUST desire to show them (whom ever we are accountable to) our VERY best.

Tip: make sure you include the end goal in your text, report or email to your boss, accountability partner etc. It speaks more as a reminder to you than to them but it also shows them that you’re aware of where you’re going, or if your off the mark. They wouldn’t be able to encourage you, push you or help you otherwise.

Keep striving to achieve GREATNESS in your business and in your life. It’s what God demands of you and your business – namely PERFECTION.

Become the best version of yourself. Your family and future self will thank you.

God love you!

Credit Where It’s Due

4uojmedcwi8-tim-bogdanov

Continuing beyond my GC post – assuming we are obsessed with creating our ultimate selves, achieving our fullest potential… can we or rather should we take credit for it?

After all, weren’t we the ones who dreamt it up in the first place, persevered and suffered terrible obstacles to make our life’s greatest ambitions a reality? Can we even take credit for the planting of the seed before it has burst forth producing fruit?

Firstly <apart from God we can do nothing!>
It was Himself who put our dreams there in the first place, for we didn’t create ourselves nor give ourselves the capacity to do anything. We are a gift. A <didn’t need to be> but for Love, we be <we exist>. Considering all that is fallen within us, and remembering that if but for a moment He should cease to think of us – we would cease to be or ever have been… why should we even entertain the thought of taking credit for anything? And if the dreams are there (which if you are a human being they certainly are) how dare we deny them, suppress them and not take them as opportunities from our Blessed Lord to participate in creation through sub-creation?

Secondly <dare we not take our goals to our Blessed Lord?>
If they came from Him, why shouldn’t we go to Him and say to Him “this is on my heart… Lord what would you have me do? I am not afraid of the glory… I know in my fallen nature I would claim it for my own and bathe in it. But Your grace Lord perfects nature and so from the beginning through the BVM I give up the right of disposing all my spiritual and physical accomplishments for Your glory that she (BVM) would dispose them in the interests of Thy SH.” The question isn’t our perfection – that is a demand from our blessed Lord. The question is how does He want to bring this about and in what manner?

The pursuit of excellence for God’s sake builds in us virtue, increases grace and gives us opportunities to merit. There is a burning desire (I truly believe suppressed by most of us) to be great and if we pursue it for His sake, perhaps we will gain something greater still in the end.

No matter how great in the world I become, and I do plan on achieving the best version of me – my absolute fullest potential –  my prayer is that my life externally and internally points to God. I wish all my successes to be a sign pointing back at God and  pointing toward Him. Back, to give Him all the credit because He deserves it for up to this point in my life I’ve stolen my fair share of His glory and taken the credit. And forward, like a self fulfilling prophecy, pointing toward Him who I am determined to possess, know and love, just as He loves Himself, in eternity.

God Love You!

In Pursuit of Excellence

maxresdefaultI recently started reading a book by Grant Cardone (GC), called Be Obsessed or Be Average. I’d started reading the book on the advice of one of my mentors in business. Beginning this book I was and I wasn’t surprised how far my entrepreneurial thinking had deteriorated over the past 2 years. Grant is a self made multi millionaire and right from the beginning I began to challenge every single suggestion and even his very way of thinking. This is the first personal development book that I’ve read since 2014. My business thinking had definitely slipped in 2015 and I’d began to settle. 2016 turned out to be a disaster year and I’d felt like I was always playing catch up but never ahead. I knew something had to change.

I had decided that 2017 was going to be different – I’d begun preparing to change me in Advent. (ah new beginnings) I felt like I had an edge on the rest of the world by beginning my resolutions in Advent. It just so happened that after spiritual direction at the very beginning of the year, my director said something that I’d always known about myself – he flat out told me that I had an obsessive and addictive personality. It was… satisfying hearing it from him. He didn’t imply that because of this personality trait, I was doomed to fail but rather challenging me to identify the things in my life that we’re not worthy of my obsessive and addictive personality and to almost redirect that incredible power and energy toward the things that God was calling me to. Creativity and sub creation, to seek out and identify those things that would help me achieve my fullest potential. (At least this is what I heard in my head and so I ran with it)

As per my directors advice, I decided to seek out material to read about personalities like mine – I was surprised by most phycologist’s perspectives (all to negative and debbi downer..ish) so I turned away rather looking for more positive perspectives – I was far more interested in people who took their kryptonite and used it for good. Within a few days Grant’s book was recommended to me and now you have the whole back story.

Firstly, I am in now way an advocate for how Grant lives his life nor am I promoting him or any of his religious beliefs and all that he subscribes to. I will admit though – he is a brilliant business man. Instead taking my cue from St. Thomas Aquinas and how he studied Aristotle and Plato I decided to approach GC carefully, being mindful that aside from his many successes, this a person who is a self made multimillionaire that left the truth of the Catholic Church for the Church of Scientology. As a Catholic it made me sad, and I cant help but wonder what if GC obsessed about all things Catholic… perhaps he did, and I pray in the hope that one day he and his family would return home. His business and life advice however is easily applied to anything we wish. And why not take it and apply it.

After all St. Thomas did not reject Aristotle and Plato (the most brilliant minds in their day and age) nor their ideas simply because they were pagan; he studied them and took the truth that they had and applied it to further clarify and define the teachings of a multitude of things in this world. For example – he applied platonic ideas of Form and Matter, to explain how we come to define what takes place during the consecration at Holy Mass between substance and accidents etc.

Therefore I have not abandoned GC, but instead have decided to immerse my self in his writings and to see if I can achieve my fullest potential in business, family and health, while holding on tightly to the barque of St. Peter. All success in the world if won honestly comes with great suffering, and there is no greater gift than I can give to our lord than to suffer with a smile for His greater Glory! Some would be tempted to think they need to abandon their faith to reach his levels of success… and it would be foolish to draw that conclusion. His book is about reaching your full potential and in no way is he pushing religious beliefs.

Coming back to GC – being obsessive about life to reach your full potential is brilliant – especially since the majority of us have settled for and operate well below what we are truly capable of (both spiritually and materially).  St. Thomas said the same thing; he called it the pursuit of excellence – but to what end? The one thing GC is missing is the purposes end – everything we do we do for God’s sake, to know Him, love Him and serve Him so that one day we can behold Him. Matthew Kelly would call it becoming the best version of yourself… precisely to attain God; to hold him the beatific vision one day.

What if we could take the tenacity and obsessiveness of GC to build our lives to their fullest potential – and that includes massive amounts of success and wealth, not just monetarily, but in our family and in our health. And of course apply that obsession to the spiritual realm – all for the greater glory of God.

I have a burning desire to study the successful leaders of this world to take what they have and use it for God’s kingdom. As a businessman and entrepreneur I MUST pursue becoming my best and I like GC believe that success is my duty; I must take me and my company to its fullest potential to protect my treasure – the body & souls of my family and of course my own – all for the greater glory of God.

There is no reason a Catholic person should not be striving to achieve their fullest potential in all the areas of their life; spiritual life, family life, business life and health. Ultimately we are fighting a spiritual battle but we fight it in the world, in our families, in our business and health. Settling for average and mediocre in any one area is not fighting – its a soldier who’s given up on the battle –  meaning we do nothing for the kingdom of God. There are only 2 eternals – God and our eternal souls; the world is what bridges them. Either we will seek excellence in grace and virtue and greatness in all things, or we won’t. Our very best only comes through suffering in the material world and offering it for the salvation of our souls and others to finally achieve HIM is reaching our fullest potential (a Saint, who we are created to become). To do any less is to settle for average and mediocre.  Make no mistake – A saint, our fullest potential, the best version of our selves, is EXACTLY what Almighty God from all eternity intended for us to become when he conceived of us.

My thanks to Grant Cardone for waking me up and fueling my healthy obsessions.

Do not be afraid to become great in the world – Go become a Saint – the whole world is waiting.

To all of you and GC if you every do read this, know that I’m praying for you!
God Love You!

The Battle For Family

StMichael10There is an ancient evil at work that never rests or tires. Our downfall is this evil’s aim and its victory is gained by our eternal damnation. Our damnation is very easily achieved; die without sanctifying grace in our soul; die in the state of mortal sin. This must be fought at all costs. Men are called to fight this fight and the path to victory for men is singular and that is to die while fighting it. We [men] are born for battle, to guard and protect what is sacred and entrusted to our care; it is sacred because that which is entrusted to us does not belong to us but rather to God. We are simply the guardians and protectors of the beautiful. The battleground is the Family. Our weapons? Prayer and Sacrifice.

Matt. 22:37-40 “Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.”

The enemy’s first target is us (men). Alongside lack of preparation for battle, we are assaulted in the areas of pride, sloth and lust. First we think ourselves able to succeed in anything and everything apart from God on our own strength and intelligence, then to disengage our heart, soul and mind from all that is good, true and beautiful, and finally love only ourselves by using our neighbour as an object to satisfy and gratify the lower faculties.

And what happens when we start to love ourselves more than our neighbour? Can the soldier in the army help win the battle if he is only concerned about his own wellbeing? Surely not. But far too many men, husbands and fathers alike sacrifice their families for their own safety and the safety of their hopes and dreams rather than sacrificing themselves and their future greatness for their bride and children.

After attacking the head of the family, the enemy goes after our bride and children to subvert and undermine the authority that God placed over the head of the family; and our bride and children may be attacked violently; we can also see this parallel on a much larger scale as the Bride of Christ the Church has been attacked and tempted starting with Eve, to undermine Adam. But how did the NEW Adam deal with His Bride who fell prey to the enemy? Jeremiah Chapter 3 tells us that we [Christ’s Bride] have committed adultery but Christ still wishes to be united to us if we but turn again to Him he takes us back. Still HE had to win us back and did so by dying for us. In our family life we are called to do what He did.

No we do not get to take a break – show me when hell takes a day off and I’ll show you when you can take a day off.

knights-horses-mountblade-artwork-medieval-1920x1200-wallpaper_www.wallpaperhi.com_68

When our will is aligned with God’s will, we have found the narrow gate. When our will CROSSES God’s will, He says to us “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his CROSS and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.” Matt. 16: 24-25.

God Love You!

Need help?… ASK FOR IT!

Know why you win and why you lose.

Being frustrated with a lack of progress is okay as long as we don’t remain there. Stagnation stinks and it usually leads to death… albeit a slow death but death is for certain. Because we’re building bad habits that stifle growth and if we’re not growing… we ARE dying.

When we die, we take nothing else with us save our good works, the grace we’ve merited in this life and our habits (virtues & vices). Every moment of every day is an opportunity to tear down and root out our predominant defect/s and replace it/them with the opposite/corresponding virtue. My okay-ness with my sloth and pride for so long is actually quite disgusting; those two demons have been killing me softly with their false songs of comfort and mediocrity.

The Catholic Gentleman

Plug for another blog I follow and love – The Catholic Gentleman

“Frustration is fertilizer” – said a rich man I once met named Rich. Something must be done and if it’s meant to be then it’s up to me. I’ve gotta GROW thru my Frustrations and sufferings! Humility and Diligence is what I needed to build;  Failing precisely because of my laziness and pride and having to ask for help are exactly the things I needed to gain perspective on how little I actually am and have done and how small I think. Often it takes a birds-eye-view to see why we’ve won or why we’re losing. And if we don’t gain this perspective then we’re doomed to repeat the same mistakes and never improve. It’s hard to gain a birds-eye-view over yourself which is why when you need help… ASK FOR IT!

The lazy and proud man I’m currently killing inside me through my actions (prayer, suffering & mortification) wishes this simply be a one time thing. But no! I MUST beat my imperfect self into submission DAILY. Always growing and always learning, gaining ground and seeking the help of those who’ve gone before me to gain perspective so that I can conquer myself.

To settle in life is a sad thing indeed. Sanctity(The Best Version of Yourself) demands we see our selves as we really are and become who we are called to be.
